Microchipping

Microchipping your dog ensures permanent identification, aiding in quick recovery if they get lost.

Microchipping is a permanent method of identification for both cats and dogs. The microchip contains a number unique to your pet. This number is registered with the microchip company, along with your pet’s medical file and your contact information. This method of identification increases the chance of your pet coming home safely if they become lost.

How does a microchip work and is it safe?

A microchip as a form of identification that cannot be removed like a collar. It stays with your pet for their lifetime. A microchip can be safely inserted under the skin during any vet appointment or during surgery. The skin is numbed with freezing jelly and a needle containing the microchip is inserted into the skin. When scanned at a veterinary office or animal shelter, the microchip company is then contacted to begin the process of reuniting you with your pet. The microchip company will then contact you to let you know where your pet is located.
